Writing

I have been quietly writing for some time now.  If you follow this blog on a regular basis you will know that I have had some of my works of poetry published in books, magazines and newspapers.

This however is a different project.  My first proper novel.  I have attempted this writing process before but have always left it near the beginning.  I think I found it too daunting.  But thus far I have written an ample introduction / preface and am well in to chapter 1.

I guess I will find out if I have the will and, or staying power soon enough.

Adventures With Plath

As I have mentioned before here, I am a huge fan of the poet Sylvia Plath and run the much neglected (not so as of today) website SylviaPlath.org.uk.

I have decided to delve back into my Sylvia Plath library and read her Journals again plus “Sylvia Plath A Critical Study” by Tim Kendall.

For some reason my interest wained over the past few months and with my new born daughter taking a lot of my time and attention, so did the above mentioned website.

If you are interested in poetry at all you could do worse than taking a look.

Inquest

I have had the idea to work on a book for my sister who took her own life.

It has been a few years since it happened and I have amassed most of her diaries and plenty of photos. Quite a few of both have been scanned in to a computer for me to use on this project.

What pushed the idea to the front of my mind recently was publishing my own poetry and realising that the challenge will be in doing justice to my sister rather than getting the work published.

I have started in the only way I could think how. I have set in motion the requesting of a copy of the inquest in to her death. I think that this may give me a grounding into the events surrounding how and why she died. i was unable to attend the inquest when it happened for a number of reasons.

Once I have that document I will go further in detail into the the last few months of her life as best I can through her friends and our family. Once I am prepared the real work will begin.

I just hope that what I come up with as a final document is a lasting memorial fitting enough for the sister and friend I never truly got to know.

Another Day

I have just finished watching Episode 1 of Season 1 of The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The acting is total shit. But it’s Terminators and I grew up with them, so I’m going to stick with it.

What else, oh yeah, I spent a little while prettying up fluxbox. Here’s a little taster, just click the image for a full size view. I think it’s very purty. Large image though, you were warned 🙂

I have also set the ball rolling on a little publishing venture that I’ve been dreaming about for a years now.

Publishing my own poetry magazine. Like i say, the ball is rolling, first issue is scheduled for June. Stay tuned for more as and when.

My film site Chewed Celluloid has been suffering recently so that needs some attention shortly.

I think that’s about it for now. Going to stick a film on or another Terminator episode, and think about sweet things and different places….

Book

The first edition of my poetry book, ‘The Walk’, arrived today and I am really rather pleased with it.

Of course it’s just a rough first publishing draft but I can see, with my hands, what needs altering, adding, removing and updating before I get it printed for retail.

I’ll update this post later with a photo.

New Project

Yes, another one!

I’ve been looking all around the web for information on Sylvia Plath, her life and works and have found lots of different sites with lots of different levels and details of information.

My new project is a website with all the information people could ever want in one place, along with a forum for discussing her life and works and regular news updates on new books, articles and discussions and other resources.

The website is in place and the domain name is also good to go as soon as the dns has resolved.
