Dearest Marie

It’s the one day of the year when we are supposed to show the one we love, just how much they mean to us.

I want to make every day a Valentines for you, and I know I have a long way to go.

There are have been times in our two years together that we have struggled, and maybe things didn’t always work the way we planned.  I have said and done things I regret, but I can say with all of my heart that you are my love, and that every day with you is something I treasure.  I know I don’t often say it, but that’s just my way.  Sometimes when I’m on my own and thinking I will wander off to a place with you in my mind and think just how lucky I am to have you even though I haven’t always shown it.

When you are with me everything is right and when I forget for a time or don’t show it, it’s my failings, not yours.

Anyway, I did try and write a poem for you, but everything I started with didn’t do us justice.  So what better way to say it than with one of the masters.

THE GOOD-MORROW.
by John Donne

I WONDER by my troth, what thou and I
Did, till we loved ? were we not wean’d till then ?
But suck’d on country pleasures, childishly ?
Or snorted we in the Seven Sleepers’ den ?
‘Twas so ; but this, all pleasures fancies be ;
If ever any beauty I did see,
Which I desired, and got, ’twas but a dream of thee.

And now good-morrow to our waking souls,
Which watch not one another out of fear ;
For love all love of other sights controls,
And makes one little room an everywhere.
Let sea-discoverers to new worlds have gone ;
Let maps to other, worlds on worlds have shown ;
Let us possess one world ; each hath one, and is one.

My face in thine eye, thine in mine appears,
And true plain hearts do in the faces rest ;
Where can we find two better hemispheres
Without sharp north, without declining west ?
Whatever dies, was not mix’d equally ;
If our two loves be one, or thou and I
Love so alike that none can slacken, none can die.

We will have a wonderful Valentines together when you wake up in the morning.

    Wow!
    What a lovely thing to read first thing in the morning.
    I just want you to also know that you are my world. When we are together there is never anytime that I am happier. Yes we’ve had our ups and downs but we knew it would never be easy – but our love for one another has always won through.

    I love you, looking forward to spending the day showing you just how much.
