I had heard of this film by title only before I watched it, and when Casino Royale’s Bond bad guy came up on the screen as the lead I thought, ‘Oh, no. As much as I don’t want it to that role is going to haunt him throughout this film for me.’

And as such the opening, half an hour say, was tainted. But once I managed to get that out of my head, I was treated to an amazingly emotionally visceral film. Rolf Lassgård puts in a truly great performance as the, shall we say, antagonist. The depth there is simply stunning.

The story itself is gripping and binding through the performances all the actors give and the camera work; although flitty, works for the most part, giving an edge to the shots.

The realism imparted in a plausible story allows this film to shine brighter than I thought it’s station could.
