Been reading about this on Space.com today:
X-ray vision has brought astronomers closer than ever to completely characterizing a black hole, a place where strange things happen.
Astronomers measured the spinning speed of three black holes, finding that one rotates at a breakneck 950 times per second, nearing its theoretical rotation limit of 1,150 spins a second. The black hole lies within the constellation Aquila (the Eagle) about 35,000 light-years from Earth.
The finding represents an important step toward understanding these invisible objects.
I always find this kind of stuff amazing, I guess its kind of humbling in a way to know whats out there. But that’s just me. 🙂
Another thing that caught my eye is the poisoning of the Russian defector Alexander Litvinenko. The story behind it is quite interesting but the way the poison is affecting his body is terrifying. The deadly toxin thallium, a liquid metal if I remember rightly, is odourless and tasteless. The poor fella only has a 50/50 chance of living, have a little look at the story if you get a chance.
On a more personal note I feel kinda flat this morning. Cant put my finger on why. Guess its just a phase today, cant shake the sleepiness off. This blog was supposed to be eloquent and funny. But not this morning 😛
